Malaysia forces new electric vehicles to use RFID license plates: Why?

Recently, the Malaysian Ministry of Transport announced a new regulation: starting from September 9, 2024, all newly registered pure electric vehicles (EVs) must install a new license plate called RPK. This license plate not only looks special, but also hides high technology!

Why do electric vehicles use RFID license plates?

Now, the whole world is working hard to reduce pollution and make the earth cleaner. Electric vehicles have become everyone’s new favorite because they do not emit exhaust gas. In order to make electric vehicles easier to recognize and add them to a smarter transportation system, Malaysia decided to use special license plates for new electric vehicles.

This new license plate, called the RPK license plate, not only looks new, but also can “talk” directly to the transportation system, making cars on the road go more smoothly and traffic smarter.

What does the RPK license plate look like?

The RPK license plate adopts a European design and adds Malaysian elements. It has a white reflective background and black letters, which looks very clear. There is also a small anti-counterfeiting hologram on it. The Malaysian flag and country code are printed next to it, and there is a small green environmental protection pattern – you can tell at a glance that it is an electric car!

The size of the license plate is generally 100mm × 33mm. If there is a special need, different sizes can also be customized.

What are the special functions of the RPK license plate?

Don’t underestimate this license plate, it contains super powerful technology:

Chip type: Use Alien H9 or Ucode8/9 chip (can also be customized as needed).

Operating frequency: 860-960 MHz, such a frequency can make long-distance recognition faster and more accurate.

Protocol standard: Follow the international standard ISO/IEC 18000-6C, and can be connected with intelligent transportation systems around the world.

Future prospects

Right now, Malaysia is still in the pilot stage, but soon all new electric vehicles must use this smart license plate. This not only makes green travel more popular, but also helps the country build a more advanced intelligent transportation network. Through RFID Tags technology, the roads of the future will become smarter, safer, and smoother, just like equipping every car with a smart ID card!
