RFID Technology: Revolutionizing Plasma Product Management

Table of Contents

In hospitals or pharmaceutical factories, the management of plasma products has always been a headache. Because plasma is not only a thing with a lot of information and a long process, but also very delicate – it is easy to spoil if not stored properly. Every bag of plasma is related to human health and even life, so its transportation, storage, and use must be handled with extreme caution at every step.

Take China Resources Boya Biopharmaceutical Group as an example. This is a large pharmaceutical company that uses 900 tons of plasma annually and mainly produces various blood products. They used to use traditional barcodes to manage plasma like most companies. But this method has many problems:

Barcodes can only store a little simple information and are “read-only” and cannot be changed.

When it encounters moisture and wear, the barcode is easily unscannable, affecting its use.

The entire process of plasma collection, transportation, and delivery cannot be tracked by barcodes.

Receiving, shipping, and inventorying are all done manually, one by one, with low efficiency.

Later, they used the RFID Tags we provided, and the situation was very different!

How powerful are RFID tags?

Our tag is specially designed for low-temperature products such as plasma, and can still work normally at an extreme low temperature of -70℃. It uses a special glue process, is not afraid of cold, not afraid of moisture, and has a particularly good reading and writing effect, which is 40% stronger than traditional medical tags!

More importantly, unlike barcodes that can only be “looked at”, RFID tags can store a lot of information and can be updated. For example:

Blood donor information

Blood type

Collection time

Storage conditions

Shelf life

Which station has processed it, which vehicle has transported it

All of these contents can be written into the label, which is equivalent to giving each bag of plasma a “small ID card”.

Where the plasma goes, you can find out with a check!
With RFID, the entire process of plasma products can be recorded. From the blood collection point, to the plasma center processing, and then to the hospital use, every link can be tracked and monitored, just like installing GPS on the plasma.

When storing, the system will tell you whether the plasma can be placed in the current cold storage and how long it should be kept;

When leaving the warehouse, the system will automatically recommend which plasma that is about to expire should be used first to prevent waste;

Once a batch of plasma has a problem, you can immediately find out where it came from, where it has been transported, and which bags were handled with it.

This traceability capability not only makes plasma safer, but also greatly reduces the workload of staff.
